The Center’s Dr. Bridget Hanson, along with an interdisciplinary group of MSU colleagues, recently published an article in Health Promotion International. In the paper, led by Danika Comey of MSU’s Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing, they examined how a structured steering committee can support implementation of Health in All Policies (HiAP) in a rural, micro-urban community.
The steering committee developed a HiAP curriculum and successfully implemented a HiAP approach in a rural community. Dr. Hanson led the project’s evaluation, which found that steering committee members reported increased knowledge in HiAP and social determinants of health as well as enhanced collaborations with diverse partners outside the health sector. Their findings highlight practical, cross-sector strategies for improving population health in rural areas.
