Extensive research has shown that developing the social and emotional skills of youth significantly improves academic and health-related outcomes including underage drinking, the misuse of substances, and suicide. Developing social and emotional skills protects children from negative outcomes associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and bolsters resilience.

ParentingMontana.org helps parents develop the social and emotional skills of their children at any age while addressing common parenting challenges like establishing routines and making sure homework is completed.  As the parents (or those in a parenting role) use these tools with their children, both the children and the parents develop their social and emotional skills – thus bolstering the parents’ abilities while strengthening protection for the child.

During Annmarie’s session, participants will become familiar with ParentingMontanta.org, be able to name five social and emotional competencies, be familiar with research on how these competencies improve health related outcomes and think of opportunities that exist within their own communities to bolster social and emotional skills across the social ecology.
